System errors are messages that tell you that something is not right with the computer’s hardware or software. The error codes usually have an explanation that will assist you in resolving the issue. However not all error codes are made equal. Some error codes can be difficult to comprehend and aren’t particularly useful. For instance an error message that says “file name is too long” probably means your file’s name, or extension is too large for the filesystem to handle. In this case cutting down on the length of your filename or releasing space on your hard disk would likely solve the problem.

Other error codes may indicate that the system couldn’t access a device on a hard disk or utilize a file that does not exist. These errors will usually cause your system’s to halt. You will see a blue screen with a message regarding the system error.

Some older systems require data conform to certain formats and will display an error if there’s even the slightest inconsistency. Modern systems, on the other hand, are more flexible and accommodating of information which does not comply with the format.
